Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack recently unveiled their newly upgraded live and simulcast greyhound racing areas as part of a majority facility renovation.
According to a news release, the large capital project includes numerous upgrades to the second floor with more improvements currently underway on the third floor. Both levels are enhanced with new flat-screen wall TVs and individual wagering stations with TV's for secure and private wagering. The new non-smoking second floor has been reinvigorated with new carpet, paint and additional tables and chairs at the base of the grandstand. The second floor bar has also been reopened and the main concession stand has been expanded, offering more menu items. Officials said the current phase of the renovation project will add additional betting carrels, new carpet and flat-screen TVs to the third floor, which will be the designated smoking area. These improvements will be completed by the end of November. A grand re-opening celebration is scheduled to take place on Thanksgiving weekend. "Racing is a significant part of our history and a very important aspect of our current business model. We took the time to speak to our customers and listen to them as part of our facility remodeling project. We did a great job in renovating our racing facility and our guests have been very complimentary of our efforts and the fact that we care about their business" said Jim Simms, President and General Manager.
