Like Tiger (the golfer), Tiger Boy (the greyhound) may be down, but not out.
Tiger Boy's recent injury was thought to possibly be career-ending, but owner Vince Berland says he has high hopes that last year's Rural Rube Award winner and All-America captain will return to the racing wars.
"Fortunately, it's a cracked hock, and not a break," he said earlier this week. "I believe he'll be going back to the track, hopefully this fall."
Tiger Boy is recuperating in Abilene, where he's also being drawn for breeding purposes.
Already in 2012, Tiger Boy (racing for the McAllister Kennel in St. Pete) has captured the Derby Lane Inaugural, the St. Petersburg Derby and the St. Pete track win title with 17 victories. The injury pre-empted plans to have Tiger Boy competing this summer against the best at Southland, where he dominated 3/8 races much of last year.
